The battle line is drawn in the race for Nigeria’s top app. Microsoft Nigeria launched the 9ja Apps competition as a way to empower the next generation of Nigerian developers. The message was clear, Develop locally relevant and locally appealing apps for the Windows platform(Windows Phone and Windows 8) and stand a chance to win mouth watering prizes. The tournament was then extended to give more time for developers to submit apps to the store. Since then there has been several apps from Nigerian developers vying for the top prize. Here is a teaser of SOME of the wonderful apps on display.

2. TourismNigeria

Want to learn more about Nigeria and the beautiful places to visit, TourismNigeria might just be for you. App Developer Oludayo Alli is former Nigerian Imagine Cup representative. Available for Windows Phone and costs $1.49 but allows for a trial version

It lets you find the best prices on products you’re shopping for. Available for both Windows Phone and Windows 8

Sasha Winston, developer of TwinkleMap and AFCON 2013 Guide(hehe) is out with another Windows 8 app. For $3.49 or a free trial, you will learn how to prepare the perfect African Recipe ranging from Akwa Ibom Afang soup to Ghana’s Pineaple Spice drink. Like i said, its for Africa. More apps are in the works but thats for another day. AfriRecipesWiki is available for Windows 8

There are several more locally relevant apps by Nigerians and a lot more to come. Nigerians are not smiling :) However there is only so little i can write about. I will be putting more 9jApps material over the course of the tournament. To learn more about 9jApps, go to 9jApps.info
